Federal Election 2006
Candidate Survey

All candidates running in PEI in the January 23, 2006 federal election received a short survey of six questions to answer concerning their stands on disability issues on December 16, 2005 [or as soon after as their candidacy and contact information was known]. Candidates were told that responses will be posted on this web site as they are received after that day. We will include all responses received, and add them as they are received. They will be included exactly as they are received, including any spelling or grammatical errors. If no response is given by a candidate, that will be indicated as well.

Candidates received the questions with a brief preamble to each. The full preamble and questions are on a separate page if you would like to have a look at them. The questions are:

  1. What actions have you taken to ensure that your Party’s campaign is accessible to persons with disabilities?

  2. Do you support a national investment in a Disability Supports Fund?

  3. What actions would you support in a labour market strategy addressing disability?

  4. What would you do to eliminate the poverty experienced by persons with disabilities?

  5. Do you support the development of accessibility regulations, not voluntary codes, to improve access to the federal transportation system?

  6. How would you go about making disability a priority in all Federal initiatives?

If you are thinking about who to vote for in this federal election, there are some things for you to consider first. We also have background information on disability issues in the federal election campaign. There is a page on some other things to think of before voting this time. Also we have some ideas for you about how to get involved in the election campaign if you want.

Keep coming back all through the federal election campaign for updates and new candidate responses on disability issues.
